Alberta Childcare Subsidy Guide 2026: What Parents Need to Know

Alberta's childcare affordability programmes have made quality childcare accessible to more families than ever. Here's everything you need to know about the subsidies available in 2026.

Alberta Affordability Grant

The Alberta Affordability Grant reduces the cost of childcare for all families — regardless of income. There's no application or income test required.

Under the grant:

  • Full-time care: $326.25/month (parent portion)
  • Part-time care: $230/month (parent portion)

The grant is applied automatically at participating providers. You don't need to fill out any forms — your childcare provider handles everything.

Alberta Child Care Subsidy

In addition to the Affordability Grant, lower-income families may qualify for the Alberta Child Care Subsidy, which can further reduce or eliminate the parent portion.

Eligibility is based on:

  • Family income
  • Number of children in care
  • Type of care (full-time vs part-time)

You can apply online through the MyAlberta portal or contact Alberta Supports.

How It Works at Bright Fox

At Bright Fox Dayhome, we are an Alberta Approved provider, which means:

  • The Affordability Grant is applied automatically
  • Full-time care costs just $326.25/month
  • We can help guide you through the subsidy application if you qualify for additional support

Is the $10/Day Target Still on Track?

Alberta is working toward $10/day childcare as part of the federal-provincial agreement. As of 2026, parent fees have been significantly reduced, and further reductions are expected.
